Can you help show our children what we value? Salem Middle School has formed a Wellness Committee. We are encouraging parents, staff, administrators and students to become a part of this committee. WCPTA Council believes that health should be a priority in schools. We want to form the Wellness Committee to assess the school’s needs then make long and short term goals. If you are interested in the overall well-being of your child, then this committee is for you. Our Committee will have 3 divisions, Garden/Physical Activity/Food (food education). Which one are you or your child interested in?
Please contact Liz Mavindidze at email@example.com with any questions or to become a part of the Wellness Committee.

The Cultural Arts committee is a team of 2-3 co-chairs that organize cultural arts events for the school. This year we have had a opera group, a poet in residence, a batik artist, a storyteller, etc. The cultural arts committee will need to take some direction from the faculty to ensure that all performances compliment the curriculum.
The Grounds committee looks for ways to improve the functionality or aesthetic of the school grounds.
The Reflections program is PTA’s cornerstone arts program. It has inspired millions of students to reflect on a specific theme and create original artwork. Each year, students in Grades Pre-K through 12 are recognized for bringing the theme to life through dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography and visual arts. The Staff Hospitality committee helps to provide snacks and meals for our staff throughout the year. The committee starts the year with the Beginning of the Year Teacher Breakfast. They also will help provide either snacks or full lunches on early release dates throughout the year.
Special Events Hospitality
The Special Events Hospitality committee helps provide food during special events. This past year, we provided lunch to a Shanghai jump rope team that visited the area and performed for out students. They organized a catered dinner for our district's Board Advisory Council and breakfast for our Spotlight on Students event. Finally, they provided drinks and snacks to several artists that visited our school as part of our cultural arts program.
The Staff Appreciation committee makes wonderful homemade goodies for our staff members during their birthday month. They also provide gift cards to help honor specially recognized staff members. For the past few years, they have also arranged a catered lunch for the staff in early May to commemorate Staff Appreciation week.
The Volunteer Coordinator will collect data from our volunteer opportunities form and create a spreadsheet of each volunteer's contact information and preferences. The coordinator will share the data with committee chairs as needed. For example, the data for people that sign up to help with hospitality be shared with the hospitality committees. Volunteers that express an interest in helping in the media center will be shared with the media center staff. The volunteer coordinator will also help the staff in finding proctors for various standardized tests that are administered throughout the year.
